Words Chosen: Office, Crime, Selection

Detective Luis walked towards the building of her next case; someone had written “Do not enter” on the wall already. This case was an odd one, man brutally killed all his coworkers before escaping the building and jumping off a nearby bridge after police tried to catch him. There was no cause for him to do this, the man was a soft-spoken man, had a wife and 2 kids at home. All were shocked that he would ever do that. “Not my Phil!” sobbed his wife as Detective Luis had her identify her husband’s body, shocked when she found out the man who had slaughtered their office workers was him.

It was a very odd and sad case, but Detective Luis had a job to do, her job was to figure out what might have happened. So, with a sigh she entered the office building. It was bright inside as the sun was just rising and the sunlight was coming into the windows of the building.

Tick tock tick tock

She looked up and saw that the clock on the wall was still running, as if the previous day’s events had never occurred. She could already see the blood on the walls before she rounded the corner. “First desk on the right.” She remembered her team, that had come in before to clear the bodies, had told her. Detective Luis saw the graffiti right away “Force ‘it’”, whatever “it” was, with a smile next to it.

“Must have been miserable working here.” She mumbled to herself taking out gloves to put on before approaching the desk. There were pill bottles on the desk and the floor.

“Huh? I think this is what made him go crazy.” She shook her head as she read the label on the pills, the man’s wife had said he had been acting odd since the doctor’s started him on those pills and they were due for a doctor’s visit the next day. Guess it was a little bit too late now.

“These pills are known to give hallucinations. He must have taken too many and gone on a killing spree.” The detective thought to herself as she put the pills in a plastic bag.

She continued to look around, the blood getting thicker as she did, starting on her left before she circled back to the right side where she knew the biggest pile of blood would be.

“I guess this guy was his main target. Poor guy was just trying to get money for his family.” She wrote down some notes including the obvious “Die” written over the desk of Sam Hudson. Father of 4 kids, going through a bad divorce and was trying to get full custody of his kids. Mother was a druggy and it made Detective Luis sad that those 4 kids would either be sent to the abusive mother or put in the system. Neither option was good, but that would be all those kids had, it didn’t seem like any of the relatives wanted them when Sam’s death was relayed to the nearest of kin.

Detective Luis took a few more notes and some pictures to look at back at the station, the cleaning crew was going to come later that day and she needed to finish before they did.

“I hope everyone can rest in peace” Detective Luis said a quick prayer, a habit she always did before leaving a crime scene where people had been killed. Then she made her way out the door, on her way back to the police station to file her report.
